Senior Projects: What Do Seniors Have To Say?

by the Staff of the Titan Ledger

We asked Sia Vang( 18 years old) some questions about her Senior Project and how she feels about it. It's really interesting to hear how she feels about Senior Project!

1).What is your project's about?
* Foster Care
2). Is your project hard?
Sia Vang
* Yes, because I'm not yet familiar to English much and the time's limit.
3). Do you like your topic?
* Yes, because perhaps I might has a job in foster care.
4). When you going to present your project?
* Just finish it yesterday.
5). How do you prepare for your senior project?
* I was prepared by researched info online and used my own imagination and experiences. Because where I was from were a lots of orphans and I know how it feel to become a orphans.
6). Is your project hard or easy to presents?
* I say hard because I am not so good at English.
7). Do you think you will pass the senior project?
* Yes, because I believe in myself that my project definitely came out very well. Also, I worked really hard on it.

I have learned from Chong, that you have to choose the topic you are most interested in and what you often experience everyday or from the past because that'll be a lots easier for both present and in the future.

Elizabeth Coleman

Elizabeth did her project on kids with autism. She had a peer mentoring class here at Luther Burbank where she was helping with kids that have autism. She didn't have a specific topic but she did want to raise awareness for it.

She took pictures of herself cooking, going to community outings, and doing every day things with the kids. She wanted to show that although it may seem like a small task it really is a big deal.

Things she would do differently is use her time more wisely and arrange more events for them. her advice for future seniors is simple.  Do not procrastinate! her biggest regret was this. Although you can get it all done at the last minute, your senior project is suppose to be a growing process and also enjoyable.

When picking your senior project, pick something your passionate about because the more passionate you are about it the easier it will be to want to do it. It's a project that's suppose to help you figure out what you want to be after high school.

It should be something you would like to change, be apart of, be included in, or just something that you like. Something that has depth and meaning something that means a lot to you.

Kashia Lee is a wonderful Senior here at Luther Burbank. Since she has an interesting personality, Lee was asked to come and answer of couple of questions by Titan Ledger's Trina Hooker.

What is your Senior Project about?

"My Senior Project was based on manga and sexism because I have loved Japanese comics and animation since [the] third grade, but never did I notice the sexism presented in it."

What did you learn?

"I learned many things from researching, such as women lacking in the [Japanese] workforce due to the 3 year maternity leave and sexual harrassment. The Japanese believes in the [saying] that 'a child should be with their mother until the age of three," along with the fct that sexual harrassment and rape are no moral issue."
Kashia Lee

How much stress did you undergo?

"To be honest, I wasn't really aware I was under stress. All I [knew] was, I was behind and I needed to catch up!"

Do you think Senior Project be required? Why?

"Yes and no. Yes because it prepares us as public speakers and in many ways, teaches us not to fear speaking out loud in front of people. No because we have gone to school for 12 years, more or less, and [Senior Project] shouldn't be determined [whether] we graduate or not!"

How hard was it to stay on task?

"It was really hard. I kept telling myself  'I have all this time' and I did not, but time goes by so quickly. It [was] especially scary when it was the last month before Senior Project was due and you are four papers behind, along with a barely finished product. It was even got harder on the last few days were my thoughts for writing just wouldn't come. But at the end, I passed with a 38 out of 40."

1. How do you feel about the senior project?

Senior project is not simple, because it is very time consuming. Although it gives you the experience of public speaking.

2. What was your senior project about?

Chee Xiong
My senior project is about Organic  Gardening. Organic gardening is growing crops without using synthetic pesticide to avoid harm to the environment.

3. When is your senior project?

Our presentation date was April 24 Thursday but I postponed to May 9 because I was sick.

4. How do you feel abut your project?

I really enjoyed my project because it was a great learning experience. Learning about how the smallest things like pesticide can take such impact to something as big as the environment.

Interviewing Daveana Owens was a great experience for me . As I asked  about her senior project she told me that senior project is not very hard if you already know everything about your project , then it's just very easy to do.
LBHS Senior Daveana Owens

Daveana project is about bullying. She likes the project because she's learning new  things that she didn't know about bullying. Daveana prepared herself for the senior project by researched a lot about bullying and how many people are effected by it.

When I asked Daveana is it hard for her to present her senior project she said,"Yes , because I don't like talking in front of a lot of people. I sometimes have those feeling, too"

Daveana thinks she did really good with her senior project because she learned new skills and she also learned how to help those who getting bully. She also learned to do things on time not just when time is over.

LBHS Senior Amber Nicole
I interviewed Amber Nicole about her senior project, She is doing the project on Child Brain Development. What she wanted to learn about Child Brain Development is mostly learning about disabilities and why do children develop is such an early age and why is it noticeable . Her project  mostly was about her going to First Steps for her community hours. What she saw was that all the students sit in a circle on letters of the alphabet. They had a name, subject, animal, object, place and thing whichever letter there sitting on.

She is feeling very nervous considering she's getting judged on how she did her work. The thing she is preparing for her presentation is by using flash cards and rehearsing so she is not as nervous.

Her advice to upcoming seniors who are going to be doing this project next year is be prepared for whatever challengs come toward you and make your time wisely don't lack it be onto of it.

Senior Project is a way for students to get involved with many interesting subject that they can learn and also interact with. It also provides students with ways to be involved into public speaking and also a new learning experience.

My name is Chee Xiong and I am 17 years old senior at Luther Burbank High School. Through my experiences of Senior Project, I had gone through many struggles and also difficulties. The main reasons I had trouble on my project, is time management. Time management is one of the main reasons why many students are having trouble with. Although Senior Project was difficult to get through, I had learned a lot about my subject.

My Senior Project is about organic gardening. Organic gardening is growing crops with out using any synthetic pesticides. The uses of pesticide are use to repel and keep insects away from farm crops. Pesticide that seeps into the soil are eroded into nearby streams and rivers. Pesticide that are in streams and rivers can harm many aquatic life and also endanger predators that feeds on these fishes.

That is why I decided to do my Senior Project.

Burbank now has newly remodeled bathrooms. There are  new low-flow toilets, hand dryers, new sinks, new floors and walls. This is all because of a grant won by the Class of 2012 for more than $30,000 to remodel our bathrooms with more environmentally-sensitive installations. The first completed bathrooms were open this week. Construction continues on all the other bathrooms currently.

These Restrooms are closed while construction is underway.

"As a rule, movies about toys need to be approached with extreme caution; some of them have been bad enough to count as health hazards. This one is the exception."
