What is good about Burbank's closed campus?

The good thing is that no one can leave whenever they want. Students won't be wandering around. It will stop the criminals from entering our school campus. Also,  if we open campus people will come whenever they want. We should respect the businesses that are around our school.

Closed campus is better because it will prevent criminals from entering the school. I believe that we should always lock our classroom doors so that the students can't leave the classroom or get in without the teacher's permission.

The other good thing would be a gated-school campus. Thus, no one can leave. The students won't just ditch the classes whenever they want to.

What is Good About Closed Campus?

Everyone in this school would love to have an open campus, and it would be great in some instances, but if we take the time to think about it, there are many consequences that we will have to face as a school and students.  High school is important in our life as young adult because it helps us figure out what we are going to be when we grow up and do something greater with ourselves.

Theses are things that we should take in consideration.
(1) If every student decides to get up and leave the class whenever they wanted, it wouldn't be called a school.
(2) How will students complete their work and actually pass class if they're not there.
(3) Students are going to slack off and skip school more often and this will not benefit the school in any form.
(4) How would we know who steps in and out of the school. Anyone can freely attack one of the staff members or students, and safety is what our schools should be about.

Students And Teachers At Spirit Week

In order to have a decent spirit week at school or school spirit period, students should at least get into the spirit. Teachers also can help students by doing the following:

1. Give out extra credit to those who do.
2. Encourage those who won't do it by giving out candy.
3. Give prizes at the end of the week to those who dressed up everyday.
4. Or just simply tell them to dress up.

Students who wonder why their school is so "Bootsie" should get into the spirit. Students can help each other by doing the following:

1. Look forward to getting extra credit especially for those who have low grades.
2. Be encouraged by the candies.
3. Tell fellow peers about the prizes for the most-dressed students.
4. Or just get dressed up.

Having school spirit brings out how the school really isn't "Bootsie". By doing these steps, I believe, it will improve the school spirit and spirit week.

Spirit Week Is Coming

Spirit Week at Burbank begins Feb. 24 ......but first, here is something special:

Food Fair: Friday, Feb. 21

Here are some food expected to be sold that day:

ROTC: Variety of food/Drinks

Soccer: cookies and browines

Cheer: Subway Sandwiches

Leadership: Chinese Food

Hmong Club: chow fun, Orange chicken and rice.

Now to the plans for Spirit Week .....

Interview: Michael Thao

Michael Thao is in Naval Jr. ROTC at Burbank, the NJROTC. The reason that he's in this cadet-training group is because he really wants to be a responsible student and to learn discipline. Not just that, he got awarded a student of the month honor in the first semester. He is also a straight A student.

      

Michael's favorite sport is football,( I guess his team was the 49ers). During his free time, he likes to play video games or read. When he grows up, he would like to become a scientist or join the Navy.


He's an unpredictable student. Michael's thinking about getting a girlfriend soon. When we asked Michael when he will get married, he said when he turns 25 , but we don't think Michael will get married when he turns 25. 

      

Guitar Class Members Perform

Part of the After-School program at Burbank is a guitar class. The Ledger asked three members of that class to perform for us.

Reaction: Sheldon Basketball Sanction By Section

On Monday, Jan. 27, the Sac-Joaquin Section sanctioned Sheldon basketball by ruling them ineligible for the playoffs this season, plus ruled five current players were immediately ineligible to play. Four of those players would not be able to play again for one calendar year.

What will be the fallout of this decision on the Burbank athletics, if at all?
